Microsoft Phi developer Sebastian Bubeck joins OpenAI

Sébastien Bubeck, former VP of Generative AI Research at Microsoft, joins OpenAI. Bubeck is one of the main authors of Microsoft's Phi models, a series of small, efficiency-tuned language and image models for local AI applications. According to a Microsoft statement to The Information, Bubeck is leaving Microsoft to continue his work on AGI. Since Microsoft owns a large part of OpenAI, Bubeck will continue to work for his former employer, so to speak. OpenAI itself is likely in need of new personnel after several high-level researchers left the company, most recently CTO Mira Murati, chief research officer Bob McGrew, and Barret Zoph, head of post-training.
